Batik
is both an art and a craft -The word 'batik'
originates from the javanese 'tik' and
means to dot. Batik is the art of decorating
cloth, using wax and dye, and has been
practised for centuries in Malaysia and
other parts of South East Asia.
Songket
is a traditional Malay fabric, hand woven
on a Malay frame loom using gold and silver
threads. Elaborate patterns are created
by introducing extra gold or silver weft
threads with the use of a flat needle.
Songket is usually worn by both men and
women during official functions and important
ceremonies.
